Coach Kevin Furtado

We are excited to welcome Coach Kevin Furtado to Commerce! Coach Furtado is currently the K-3 PE Director at Greene County Primary School. He started his basketball coaching career in 1990 at Amelia Academy in Amelia, Virginia, as Athletic Director, head girls and boys basketball coach, and head softball coach. In 1997, Coach Furtado took over a struggling LaGrange Academy girls basketball team and led them from 4 wins in the 1997 season to a Final 4 appearance in the 1998 season. Coach Furtado also coached at Lake Oconee Academy, where he built the girls basketball program into one of the premier girls basketball programs, taking the team from 3 total wins in 2016 to an Elite 8 team in his last season. In 2021, during his first season at Walnut Grove High School, Coach Furtado rebuilt the girls basketball program and finished the season with the first winning record in school history. Coach Furtado was voted the Walton County Girls Basketball Coach of the Year that season. Coach Furtado has amassed over 485 career wins in both GISA and GHSA, and his teams have made 4 Final Four appearances and have earned 4 region championships. Coach Furtado strongly feels that the impact he has on shaping the lives of his players is more important than the wins.
