ARP ACT ESSER Budget

As a part of the American Rescue Plan (ARP) Act ESSER III, Commerce City Schools has received an initial budget of $1,691,476 in federal funds.  The school system is required to create a plan for spending the federal funds aligned to the allowable use of funds from the state and federal levels.  Commerce City Schools tentatively plans to use the CARES III funds in the following ways.  When the American Rescue Plan application is approved, the school system will receive the remaining allocation of $910,795.  All expenditures within the budget are subject to approval at the local and state levels.   

  • Add seven class-size reduction teachers to grades K, 1, 2, 5, 6, 7, and 8 (salary and benefits);

  • Offer after school tutoring and summer learning opportunities;

  • Purchase computer hardware (Chromebooks, laptops, iPads);

  • Purchase curriculum materials aligned to the Georgia Performance Standards;

  • Maintain one school nurse in each school (CPS, CES, CMS, and CHS);

  • Add a part-time counseling position for CPS/CES;

  • Add an additional school psychologist to oversee interventions for struggling learners/social-emotional learning K-12/Behavior specialist K-12;

  • Add a part-time graduation coach at CHS;

  • Replace flooring at CMS in hallways, cafeteria, and offices;

  • Replace flooring in auditorium at CHS;

  • Replace HVAC at CMS and add HVAC to gym at CMS;

  • Cover costs of sanitizing and disinfecting schools and buses, add water bottle filling stations;

  • Add full-time curriculum director position;

  • Replace some food service equipment; and

  • Renovate east wing of the old CHS building to add agriculture lab and additional classroom space for CHS students
