2021-2022 Teacher of the Year - Commerce Primary School - Kelli Miller
Mrs. Miller teaches first grade at Commerce Primary School. She graduated from Piedmont University in 2015 with a Bachelor of Arts in Early Childhood Education. She obtained the ELL endorsement from RESA in 2016. Mrs. Miller worked as a paraprofessional for 12 years prior to obtaining her teaching certification. When she is not teaching, Mrs. Miller enjoys spending time with her family, especially her new grandson. She also enjoys reading, shopping, and gardening.
2021-2022 Teacher of the Year - Commerce Elementary School - Marcy Adams
Mrs. Adams teaches fourth grade math and science at Commerce Elementary School. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood Education at the University of Georgia in 2015, and her Master of Science degree in Curriculum and Instruction at Georgia Southern University in 2020. Mrs. Adams has also attained gifted and ESOL endorsements since she began her teaching career. During her tenure at CES, Mrs. Adams has taught EIP/ESOL learners for six years, and she has been teaching gifted learners for four years. Mrs. Adams is married to Taylor, and they have three sons, Camden (5), Conley (2), and Casen (1).
2021-2022 Teacher of the Year - Commerce Middle School - Karyn Gunter
Mrs. Gunter currently co-teaches 7th grade math and language arts at Commerce Middle School. She is also the special education department chair at CMS. Mrs. Gunter earned her bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, a master’s degree in Middle Grades Mathematics, and a specialist degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Piedmont College. She is currently attending the University of West Georgia to acquire a Tier One Leadership Certification. In her spare time, Mrs. Gunter enjoys spending time with her family. She is married, and they have two sons, Logan and Sawyer. Logan is in ninth grade at Commerce High School, and Sawyer is in third grade at Commerce Elementary School.
2021-2022 Teacher of the Year - Commerce High School - Kelsee Ryan
Ms. Ryan currently teaches biology at Commerce High School. She is also an Adjunct Instructor of Biology at Young Harris College. In addition to teaching regular, advanced, and AP biology at CHS, Ms. Ryan also teaches Biology 1107 and 1108 for Young Harris College to our dual enrollment students at CHS. Ms. Ryan earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology and Secondary Education from the University of North Georgia in Dahlonega in 2016. She earned her Master of Science Degree in Biological Sciences from Clemson University in 2021. While teaching, Ms. Ryan has also earned her gifted endorsement. Prior to teaching, Ms. Ryan worked in specimen processing at Northeast Georgia Medical Center and as a research assistant at the University of North Georgia. When Ms. Ryan is not teaching or furthering her education, she enjoys spending time with family and friends.
