School Safety Information

Good evening.  I know that every person is saddened by the recent school violence in Florida.  I want to reassure our community that Commerce City Schools makes safety a top priority.  Our school personnel are all aware of our lockdown levels and protocol for each level.  There are classroom posters outlining the specific steps that will be taken during each lockdown level.  Our school resources officer attends school safety trainings on a regular basis, and he redelivers those trainings to school personnel.  Additionally, staff members are trained in CPR, "Stop the Bleed" initial trauma response, and current active shooter protocols created by a coalition of governmental agencies.  We try to be as proactive as possible.  In an effort to practice our lockdown procedures, we will be conducting drills in all of our schools on Friday, February 16.  School personnel and students will be reminded of the protocol to follow during a Level III lockdown.  All of our protocols are age appropriate so that students are not upset during the drills.  Please talk with your child about the importance of following the directions of their teachers and administrators during these drills.  Thanks in advance for your help in making our schools as safe as possible.
