Friday, September 8, 2017

Dear Parents:

Based on a briefing from the National Weather Service earlier today, Hurricane Irma will potentially cause severe weather in our area at some point on Monday.  The storm is expected to bring 40 to 60 mph winds and heavy rain.  As the weekend progresses, we will continue to receive information from the National Weather Service.  If we need to notify you of any schedule changes, we will use Facebook, Twitter, our system website (www.commercecityschools.org), and SchoolCast.  Enjoy your weekend!

Sincerely,

Joy R. Tolbert

RE:  Correct home addresses

Our system really needs your help.  Throughout the school year, there are many times when the school system needs the correct address (not P.O. Box) for every student.  Please use the following steps to update your child’s address in our student information system.

Step 1- Go to the home page of our website, www.commercecityschools.org

Step 2- Log in to the Parent Portal

Step 3- Click on Household Information (Please click on update if you need to change the household phone number and/or the household address.)

If you do not have an account through the Parent Portal, please call 706-335-5500 and speak with Angie Ingram, Betty Lane Owensby, or Joy Tolbert.  You can also e-mail the correct address to angie.ingram@commercecityschools.org or joy.tolbert@commercecityschools.org

Thanks in advance for your help!

Solar Eclipse

posted Aug 14, 2017, 10:53 AM by Tobie Jones

On August 21, 2017, there will be a total solar eclipse. In our area, the solar eclipse will occur at approximately 2:37 pm. Since the event occurs at the end of the school day and in order to ensure a safe dismissal, the expected dismissal time for primary and elementary schools will be delayed until 2:55 pm followed by middle and high school dismissal at the normal time of 3:05 pm. Parents/guardians will be permitted to sign your child out of school early on August 21st; however, we ask that students check out by 1:30 pm so that the schools can have adequate time to transition to the eclipse activities. Students who check out early will be excused and allowed to make up work, but the absence will count against perfect attendance for the year. Commerce City Schools has purchased eclipse-safe viewing glasses for all students and employees. Permission forms will be sent home with students this week, and the completed sheets must be returned to school by Friday, August 18.
